Sparking a Love for Fire Safety:

Rural Metro Fire Visits the International School for Peace

Special thanks to the International School for Peace for inviting Rural Metro Fire out to their school to talk to the kids about fire safety and show them the truck! I think we had more fun than the kids!

A Morning Worth Every Minute

There's something special about walking into a school and being greeted by a sea of wide, curious eyes. When our crew from Rural Metro Fire arrived at the International School for Peace, the energy was electric — and it only grew from there. Events like this remind us exactly why we do what we do.

More Than Just a Job — It's a Mission

Fire safety education is one of the most important tools we have as a fire department. Teaching children the basics at a young age builds habits that can last a lifetime — and save one too. Our visit covered some of the essential topics every kid (and adult!) should know:

  • Stop, Drop, and Roll — We walked through the steps and even let the kids practice it themselves.

  • How to Identify Fire Hazards at Home — We talked about what to watch out for in everyday spaces.

  • The Importance of Smoke Detectors — Why every home needs them, and why testing them regularly matters.

  • What to Do in an Emergency — Stay low, get out, and call 911.

  • Never Hide from Firefighters — A critical lesson: firefighters in full gear can look scary, but they are there to help!

The Star of the Show — The Fire Truck!

Let's be honest — as soon as the kids spotted the truck, all bets were off. The questions came flying:

"How fast does it go?""How much water does it hold?""Can I sit in the driver's seat?"

We were happy to answer every single one. Kids got an up-close look at the equipment we use, tried on some gear, and yes — a few lucky ones got to sit up front and imagine what it's like to race toward the action. Seeing their faces light up behind the wheel is something our crew won't forget anytime soon.

The Takeaway

By the end of the morning, the kids at the International School for Peace weren't just excited — they were informed. They left knowing what to do if they ever smell smoke, how to help keep their families safe, and that the firefighters in their community are always in their corner.

We are so grateful to the staff, teachers, and administration at the International School for Peace for organizing such a wonderful event and welcoming us with open arms. Your dedication to giving your students well-rounded, real-world learning experiences truly shows.
